O’Brien Marketing Leverages Media Buying Expertise to Sell-Out Rose Bowl

(SANTA CLARITA, CA) – With the official kick off of the 2010 FIFA World Cup just around the corner, the Mexican National Soccer Team defeated the New Zealand National Soccer Team 2-0 in a “friendly” in front of a sold out crowd in Pasadena. The crowd of 90,526 was one of the largest to watch a soccer match in the historic Rose Bowl in more than a decade. O’Brien Marketing, the media buying agency of record for the Mexican Team, proved to generate the needed outreach to pack the stadium.

“Recognizing and understanding the challenges of this particular game, because New Zealand has less than a subpar following in the US, we worked hard to utilize our strong ties with our Hispanic Media partners,” stated C. Patrick O’Brien, CEO of the agency. Mr. O’Brien went on to explain, “We created media promotions as well as public relations opportunities that brought more than just a taste of Mexican pride to the Rose Bowl, we were able to help fill the stadium with “the 12th man”. We are proud to be able to contribute to the team’s success and popularity off the field.”
Through the agency’s well-versed professional soccer and Hispanic marketing knowledge, O’Brien Marketing struck deals with a variety of outlets which included La Opinion, Telemundo, ESPN Deportes, and Super Estrella to strategically reach the masses which lead to the match being played in front of a sold out crowd.

O’Brien Marketing continues to leverage their more than collective 45 years of sports experience by way of marketing, branding, and sales to build new partnerships and assist not only the Mexican National Team, but their long standing partnership with Chivas USA (Major League Soccer). Entering the third season as the club’s exclusive media buying agency, O’Brien has proved its value with attendance records increasing each year since coming on board. The partnership includes O’Brien Marketing handling all media buying strategies, negotiations and execution for Chivas USA for both English and Hispanic media outlets. Further, O’Brien Marketing also targets new fans through Los Angeles radio, television, print and outdoor billboards, as well as expands upon the club’s pre-existing relationships.

“O’Brien Marketing has once again shown the unique ability to work on the international sports landscape, but here on a domestic level. We are thrilled to continue to generate success and value for all our clients.” added O’Brien.
